Latacha King serves as the Executive Director of Public School Academies at Oakland University, bringing more than 25 years of experience in K–12 education. She has a record of developing and leading initiatives that promote college and career readiness, with a particular focus on expanding opportunities for underserved student populations.
In her role at Oakland University, Dr. King oversees seven charter schools in the Metro Detroit area, collectively serving approximately 4,800 families. These schools provide diverse educational options and resources designed to meet the varied needs of students and communities.
Prior to joining Oakland University, Dr. King’s career spanned multiple leadership roles, including serving as a K–12 educator, managing state and federal programs for nonpublic schools in Detroit, and supervising grant compliance for Detroit Public Schools Community District. Her dedication to addressing the complex challenges of K–12 education inspired her to earn a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership, further strengthening her expertise in student-centered practices, educational equity, and effective leadership strategies.
Dr. King resides in Birmingham with her husband and two daughters.
